Fight Club Statistics: K1 Fight Club Winners

The K-1 fight club, the Japanese promotional company has developed a reputation of putting the best heavyweight kick boxers from around the world in the ring. It's in fact so identical with the sport of heavyweight kickboxing that some fans think that the CKO ratings are K-1 ratings. Actually the K-1fight club settles on fights based on an 8-man tournament each year called the Grand Prix and it's quite a tough event. This combat sport that combines standup techniques from karate, taekwondo, kickboxing and traditional boxing, was first formed by Kazuyoshi Ishii. Very recently the K-1 organization has branched out into mixed martial arts in a series of events known as Hero's, with headliners such as Genki Sudo, Joachim Hansen, Bob Sapp and such.
This fight club statistics are in fact quite high. The K1 Grand Prix Champions include Sem Schilt [NED] (2005), Remy Bonjasky [NED] ( 2004), Remy Bonjasky [NED] (2003) ), Ernesto Hoost [NED] (2002), Mark Hunt [NZL] (2001). The oldest champion was none other than Branko Cikatic of Croatia age 38 in the year 1993 while the youngest record came the following year, Peter Aerts of Netherlands age 23.
In the K1 Grand Prix Champions, the fastest tournament victory was by Peter Aerts again, winning the fight in just under 06:43 in the year 1998. Next to him was Sem Schilt, another Netherlander just under 11:56 in the year 2005. Well the most Grand Prix titles of the K1 fight club was won by Ernesto Hoost of Netherlands, winning the K1 four times followed by Peter Aerts with three titles. And not only this, only six men have won the K-1 Grand Prix Tournament namely Hoost, Aerts, Bonjasky, Cikata, Hug and Shilt. And as it's fairly indicative in the winners' statistics, the country of the Netherlands has won 10 of the 13 K-1 Grand Prix titles. Ernesto Hoost has another title to his name in the K1 fight club world. He's known to have appeared the most times in the final, 5 times actually namely in the year 1993, 1997, 1999, 200 and 2002 followed by Peter Aerts with three final appearance. K1also has Max world GP, the reigning winner is Andy Sower 2005. This fight club is quite famous in Japan and Korea, with the fans statistics being highest in these areas. Well besides the reigning champions of K1 fight club, other notable fighters include Mirko Filipovic, Gary Goodridge, Alexey Ignashov, Jerome LeBanner, Ray Sefo, Ruslan Karaev, Kaoklai Kaennorsing, Chalid "Die Faust" Arrab, Björn Breggy and many others who are all regarded as one of the best fighters in the fight club world.
