Sports Riots
Street fighting is caused due to various reasons and in different scenarios. As such the rowdy people do not require any reason to start the fight. They are always armed with weapons and a tongue to get going. A minor trigger for them is good enough. So you should always be careful when dealing with such persons.
Apart from the street fighting that occurs among the groups of various political parties, the other most prominent street fighting is among the groups of sport fans. These fellows will start rioting right in the stadium on the stands or wait until they come on streets. This hooliganism may be an expression of loyalty, approval, anger, or celebration.
Football (soccer) fans are infamous for drunken brawls in the stadiums. One most disastrous fight amongst the football fans has been the Heysel Stadium riots, in which 39 football fans were crushed to death in a battle between Liverpool F.C. and Juventus fans.
Another sports that are infamous for such disruptions are Ice hockey, whose fans have been known to riot in the streets. This reminds me of the Richard Riot in Montreal, causing $500,000 of property damage in 1955. It all started when Maurice Richard was suspended for deliberately injuring another player.
The sports psychologists are of the view that sports arise due to cultural attitudes that support other types of violence in sports.
