Labor Confrontation

There are various causes of the street fighting, in fact there are so may causes that it difficult to numerate them. Drunkenness, hate among the people, jealousy, intolerance and tendency to dominate are some the major causes of the street fighting. Street fighting occurs at the flash of a moment and many times the cause of it avoidable.

In the big companies many times workers make some demands, which are not acceptable to the management. This leads to the strike and stoppage of work. Such situations are overwhelmed with the atmosphere of fighting. Even a small trigger can lead to sever street fighting.

Sometimes the management tries to break the strike by bringing in strikebreakers across picket lines, this may result into street fighting. In certain cases the management hires private security forces to harass and physically intimidate the protests. This again converts the work related disputes to the street fighting.

During general strike on a large scale basis the atmosphere is highly volatile and everybody is just ready to start fighting. One such example is the street fighting that was by product of the 1934 Minneapolis General Strike which saw confrontations between “workers defense brigades” set up by the Teamsters union and representatives of business owners as well as the police.
