Kickboxing

Kickboxing is one of the famous martial arts sport. When it comes to martial arts, most people associate its origin to Thailand, Japan, Korea or else where in the Far East and kickboxing is not an exception. However, as far as kickboxing is concerned the real origins of the sport are revealed by the real name by which is known, full contact karate.

You know, in the mid seventies many American tournament karate practitioners became frustrated with the limitations of the old competitive scoring system. What they were looking for was a system that would permit the application of the kicks and punches on the way to knockout. This thinking lead to the birth of full contact karat.

This sport later came to be known as kickboxing. Since it had close association with karate, in the earlier days it was played on open matted areas, just like karate. Later events were staged in regular size boxing rings. Having produced the expert kickboxers, Americans wanted to teat their mettle and sent teams of kickboxers to Japan under the banner of the WKA (World Kickboxing Association). This is how kickboxing became an international sport. So, here is the martial arts technique that is truly born in America and taught in American style.
